U.S Secretary of State Antony Blinken travelled to France for three days, and met with French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian at OECD, Minister council. He also met with French President Emmanuel Macon in Elysee Palace, on Tuesday 5 October to discuss about the tensions between the two countries that over AUKUS Triple Alliance of USA, UK and Australia, and the cancellation of the submarines French contract of Naval Group as a consequence of collateral damage.. The U.S Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, who traveled to Paris, France attending the OECD Minister Council, was received by French President Emmanuel Macron, for a lengthy one-on-one" "for his first meeting with a leader of the United States since the start of the submarine tensions between the two countries. According to Elysee, (French President’s Administration) the objective of the meeting was "to help restore confidence between France and the United States" after the submarine crisis, and that "Paris and Washington "are continuing their coordination work on issues of common interest, whether it be EU-NATO cooperation, the Sahel, or the Indo-Pacific space " Source: Elysee
U.S Sec Blinken, appeared later on French TV, France2, interviewed by Anne Sophie Lapix, during the Prime Time, of 8pm Journal. Mr Blinken spoke in French to Anne Sophie Lapix, the journalist of France 2 who told Blinken " We expected better, especially with the change of administration, and especially with you. You speak French. You are a Francophile. We expected a better dialogue." US Secretary answered " that the American "could have -- we should have -- done better, in terms of communication." And he admitted that, "above all, we sometimes tend to take for granted a relationship as important and deep as the one between France and the United States." as he spoke in a perfect fluent french to the Journalist."There is now a very important opportunity ... to deepen this cooperation and coordination, whether in the Sahel, in the Indo-Pacific, or on transatlantic issues," Blinken said. As a high level Top diplomat, Antony Blinken, then added and commented the diplomatic and strategic approach of alliances and the sense of partnership: "If we define engagement as how many troops you have in such and such a place, that's one question," Blinken parried. "If we define engagement by what your diplomatic, political, and economic engagement with your allies and partners is, then I believe that we are very committed." Eventually, there was no spectacular announcement of any new France-US efforts, coming out of 5 October's meetings. It was just a matter of defining the next steps for the two countries ahead of the real meeting of Presidents Joe Biden and Emmanuel Macron by the end of October during the G20 in Italy.
